NOTES IF ARRIVING WITH A PET

Pets are welcome in most of our accommodations.

If you decide not to take your pet with you on vacation, here are some tips on how to properly look after them while you are away:

  • Your relatives could help or your friends happy to take care of your animal, of course, if they know how. If not, you could find some people or an organisation who will take care of the pet in exchange for a fee.
  • You can rely on pet hotels, or you can find someone who usually takes in animals to look after. That might be a good choice as those people are usually great animals lovers. Another option is to ask the veterinarian in your neighbourhood for advice.

However, if you decide to take your pet with you, make sure to secure a comfortable and pleasant journey for them. Please pay special attention to:

  • Before taking your pet with you, check his overall health first.
  • Do not forget to take your pet's favourite blanket, toy or bowl with you. That will make your animal feel happy and safe in a new environment.
  • Also, take plenty of their favourite food with you as it may not be available on your trip. Before and during travel we suggest that you do not to feed the animal. You can give the animal a late dinner the day before.
  • Every animal, especially if crossing borders must have valid travel or health documents.
  • Try to start out as early as you can to avoid summer heat.
  • Smaller animals like cats could be placed in travel containers because some of them enjoy walking around the car which poses a safety hazard. The same goes for puppies.
  • If your dog cannot stand the travelling physically, seek advice from your veterinarian who will give to your dog a light remedy to calm them. The dose could be prescribed by the weight, age and concerning your pet's medical history.
  • During the travel, make frequent stops so your pet can take exercise, get some fresh air and take care of the physiological needs. Make sure they get plenty of fresh water as they run a high risk of dehydration. At arrival in accommodation, during the check in and other formalities, do not forget about your pet. Get them out of car, let them mark the territory, take a walk with your pet, and let them familiarize with the surroundings. Place them somewhere near you. Be careful with cats because they can run away if they panic.
  • After all this, offer food. Keep the same feeding times as at home.
  • When you are in accommodation, place them somewhere where they can keep you in sight at all times. This makes them feel much safer and calmer.
  • During the walk, (with dogs), leash should be used. Keep in mind that some people are afraid of animals and that there are some animals in the surroundings that are not compatible. (But of course, you already knew that)
  • If you visit a restaurant or a café bar, it's a good idea to ask first if pets are welcome
  • If you happen to run into any kind of health problems with your pet, be free to call emergency veterinary ambulance on +385 (0)60 500 000 or for more info visit www.vetinfo.com.hr.

This is the least you can do for you animal in exchange for their life-long faithfulness and devotion.

Thank you for caring for your pet!
